Goals of the Sheboygan River Basin Partnership
- Raise public awareness of the significance of and threats to our natural resources
- Engage members and the public in watershed and stewardship activities, and
- Promote sound decisions when issues affect the health of rivers in our watersheds.
Our History
In 1998, a partnership was formed in the Sheboygan Basin to improve natural resource management and encourage cooperation and citizen involvement. Facilitated by the Department of Natural Resources and UW-Extension Basin Educator the Sheboygan Land and Waters Partners was formed. Membership consisted of invited stakeholders and the Primary Goal was “To protect, restore, and improve the natural resources of the Sheboygan River Basin through a cooperative effort of Federal, Stated and Private Entities.”
In the fall of 2002, in order to increase the effectiveness of the partner group, (now renamed the Sheboygan River Basin Partnership), members identified concerns over several issues in which internal improvement was needed. It was determined the group needed to improve community and citizen involvement, commitment, advocacy, visibility, accountability, time and resources, and team make-up and structure.
